Choose one library with two kinds of progress
A film is a single title: you can keep it for later, mark it watched after release, favorite it, and rate it where the current controls allow. A show needs another level of detail because each season and episode can have its own watched state. Kino keeps both kinds together without pretending they behave identically.
Set up Watchlist, Favorites, and Films
Use Watchlist for titles you intend to watch, Favorites for titles you want to find quickly, and Films when you want a movie-only view. These are different views of the same personal library. Moving a title into a watched state records progress; it does not provide access to the title itself.
Track series one episode at a time
Open a show to see its available seasons and episodes. Mark an episode watched when you finish it, undo an accidental mark, and continue from the next eligible episode. The detailed guide to tracking shows and episodes explains this workflow without mixing it with movie history.
Keep ratings and history understandable
Ratings and watched states answer different questions. A watched state records that you finished a film or episode; a rating records your opinion where the control is available. Keeping both makes the library useful later without forcing every title into a score.
Start manually or from an archive you already own
You can build the library title by title. If you already possess a supported original archive, follow the TV Time history import guide and keep the source ZIP unchanged until you have reviewed the result. Kino cannot create a replacement archive for you.
Decide whether Kino fits your use case
Kino focuses on a private library, viewing history, watchlist organization, favorites, and ratings. If you are choosing after TV Time, use the TV Time alternative criteria to separate these needs from community or service-specific features.

No. You can add films and shows manually. An archive is only an optional starting point for people who already own a supported file.
